Dam Dang Lai

Dam Dang Lai is of Vietnamese descent, and lives in Otaru, Hokkaido with his Japanese wife and children.

Statement from the Artist:

“My painting is done by drawing  with acrylic paints on paper: a balancing of abstraction by colour, formal concerns, whimsy, tone and line…..

I usually draw many works of the same idea, with different papers and many layers and something that I consciously couldn’t imagine. That process   absorbs me even more than the result.

Sometimes my “uncontrollable” brush becomes part of my work but of course I always control composition and colour. I try to look at the light, colours, and  shapes of the world around me and turn this into Art”
